Where have American jobs gone?

AMERICANS IN LATIN MARKETS

I’ve been living in Manhattan for nearly twenty years and, boy, have I seen a lot.  In thinking about where entry-level and middle level jobs have gone to around here, I made a note to look closely within my community in order to observe where a shift to immigrant labor and ownership has taken place.

The following is a list of my findings:

  • Building Super/Maintenance (in Spanish)

  • Business Services (in Spanish)

  • Car Service/Transportation/Parking lots (in Spanish)

  • Child Day Care Centers

  • Clothing/Retail/Make-Up

  • Construction/Manual Laborers/Hardware stores

  • Education (ESL)
